Zahid insists Umno open to sincere Malay unity efforts

Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi is doubling down—Umno is open to joining forces with Malay parties, but only if they’re serious. He warned that any attempt to unite must come from a place of honesty, not selfish gain. Zahid recalled how Umno’s last attempt, Muafakat Nasional, collapsed after betrayal from their supposed allies.

Zahid slammed those who manipulated the unity effort, saying you can’t unite if there’s no true sincerity. He pointed to the chaos in Perikatan Nasional, where allies no longer see Bersatu as the top dog. Umno, however, remains open to working with anyone, even former rivals, if it serves the country and protects Malay and Islamic values.

He pointed to Umno’s alliances with PKR and DAP as proof that the party’s leadership values genuine cooperation over old grudges. Zahid is committed to keeping the current government stable until the next election, with Umno continuing to run under the BN banner.
