Zhelyazkov vows to deepen ties with German economy
Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov told German business leaders that his nation stands ready to strengthen economic ties through tangible initiatives during discussions with Eastern Commission representatives. He highlighted Germany’s position as Bulgaria’s top trading ally and major source of foreign capital, noting that commercial exchanges have multiplied 16-fold across three decades while Bulgarian shipments abroad surged 23 times during that span.
German capital in Bulgaria totaled 4.129 billion euros through mid-2025, with automotive manufacturing, machinery production, retail operations, electronics and electrical equipment sectors attracting the most investment. Many German firms operating within Bulgarian borders manufacture and ship merchandise with substantial value addition, Zhelyazkov noted.
The prime minister pledged his administration would maintain policies favoring transparency and economic stability for commercial enterprises. He stressed that accession to the eurozone and complete Schengen Area integration would simplify cross-border commerce and expand collaboration opportunities. Meeting participants also examined business digitalization efforts, competitive advantages for smaller enterprises, regulatory streamlining and efforts to address development gaps between regions. Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev, Economy Minister Petar Dilov and Deputy Innovation Minister Martin Danovski joined the session.
