Zimbabwe approves National AI Strategy to boost knowledge economy
Zimbabwe’s Cabinet has greenlighted the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (2026–2030), a bold move to leverage AI’s economic potential while controlling its risks. Announced by Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere, the strategy aligns with the country’s ICT policies and aims to shift Zimbabwe from a resource-based to a knowledge-driven economy.
In response to a 2025 AI readiness report, the strategy focuses on fostering economic sovereignty, instilling local values like Unhu/Ubuntu, and promoting inclusive development. It builds on existing laws and policies, with six key pillars including AI talent development, infrastructure, and ethical governance. Five flagship projects, such as the Zimbabwe Artificial Grand Challenge and National AI Literacy Campaign, will drive its implementation.
