Zimbabwe backs Inga 3 hydropower transmission project with DRC, South Africa
The government has approved the Inter-Governmental Memorandum of Understanding for the development of the Inga 3 Transmission Lines Project, according to Information Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere.
At a post-Cabinet briefing, Muswere explained that the project will strengthen existing electricity interconnectors between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), South Africa, and partner countries. The Inga 3 Hydropower Project, capable of generating over 40,000 MW from the Congo River, will require a transmission line running through Zambia, Zimbabwe, and/or Botswana, allowing these transit countries to access power while facilitating electricity trade with South Africa.
