Zimbabwe boosts renewable energy with 200 MW projects
Zimbabwe is making significant strides in renewable energy, with over 200 megawatts of projects under construction thanks to government incentives. Currently, 120 megawatts come from 56 operational renewable energy projects nationwide. The country’s target is to reach 2,600 megawatts by 2030.
ZERA’s CEO, Mr. Eddington Mazambani, highlighted that existing projects are expanding due to incentives like currency convertibility and economic tariffs, with 26 projects now under construction. The net metering initiative has also added over 50 megawatts to the grid, further boosting renewable energy output. Meanwhile, biogas producer Victor Tarira urged the government to extend incentives to biogas, aiming to diversify the country’s renewable energy sources.
