Rishab Shetty reveals it took 16 drafts to perfect ‘Kantara- Chapter 1’ screenplay

Actor Rishab Shetty, whose film Kantara: Chapter 1 has been met with widespread acclaim, revealed that it took 15-16 drafts to finalize the screenplay. Speaking with IANS at a celebration in Mumbai, Shetty shared how they refined the script to ensure it captured every theme and narrative thread intended for the film.

Kantara: A Legend, the first in the franchise, was an unexpected success, with Shetty admitting that the team didn’t rely on market forces and instead focused on authenticity. Reflecting on the process, he mentioned that the first film had just 3-4 drafts and took about 3-4 months to complete. However, for the prequel, they realized they needed a deeper backstory, leading to multiple drafts before the final script.

With Kantara: Chapter 1 receiving praise for its visuals, cultural depth, and scale, the film has grossed INR 421.12 crore in India, marking a major success for Shetty and the team.
